A good way to start healing wounds is to stop opening them up by fervent devotion to a simpleminded application of historical (pre-scientific) superstitions to issues of law affecting the health and peace of mind of millions of people.
All while flagrantly violating the principle of separation of church and state, because the justification is overwhelmingly religious (and not from all religions either, mind you).
You know, just don't do that, and there won't be such a wound.
