A lot of truth here, but to be fair, Biden has cut one type of check: the Covid stimulus measures weren't distributed on the basis of race, but because they're fixed-amount, they disproportionately help lower-income individuals which means (given the current unfortunate state of affairs) that they do disproportionately help black people (although that too has a wrinkle in that if you don't even file income taxes, it's an extra hassle to get the earned income tax credit, so he should lose some points there).
However, past the truth--what do we do? It's not like we can just go, "Okay, right, now we're going to implement equity in pay for black people." Because that's not remotely how it works in a heavily capitalist economy. It's already illegal to discriminate on the basis of race. (Yes, it happens anyway. It could be prosecuted more. It already is in some egregious cases.)
Even a large one-time reparations payment, if we could figure out how to equitably do that, wouldn't necessarily solve anything if we don't understand why the inequity exists. It might help for a bit, but then what? Back to the same old disparities? That's hardly what we should aspire to.
So, what's on the top of the list that isn't a check? What's the most burning issue to fix out of all the burning issues that will really move the needle for long-term improvement? Whether there are reparations or not, hadn't we better get working on that yesterday?
