Agreed, and you may note that I didn't ever say I thought you had. In the context of your article--which was about how we should be comfortable recognizing the unpleasant side of people who have also done great things--it was appropriate.
If I had thought you had overstepped there I would have said so.
But I think it is a short step to a different context and a more voracious appetite for unsavory acts, and thus was worth pointing out.
I don't endorse misleading representation of anyone. To the extent that we do it, I oppose it.
