An orthogonal way to see the same point is to note that homeschooled students, despite being often being taught by non-expert "teachers" (i.e. parents), generally substantially outperform group-schooled students. In a homeschooling setting, "something quite fixable" is almost always fixed.

Yet another orthogonal way to see the same point is to witness the success of Harlem Children's Zone, who takes kids who in many places would be in badly-funded schools full of cracks to fall through, and instead invests in them with the result that a spectacular fraction of them go on to college. "Something quite fixable" is, again, usually fixed.
