Because obviously the most desirable trait in a child is that their semen swims quickly (who cares about girls, anyway!) so they can win the next round of semen-swimming competitions.

Things like intelligence, strength, ability to relate emotionally, and so on, are all much less relevant, as are differential levels of support you might be able to get.
