Can you give me one example--just one!--of a government being "torn apart" that did not result in a dramatic worsening of conditions?

I have a whole display case full of the other sort. But a specimen of "we tore it apart and it got better" seems rare and precious indeed to me, and I would like to have one if it is not mere myth.
