There's also an odd disconnect between the population with a high suicide rate (middle aged)--at an age and in a demographic where the intense pressures of conformity are considerably relaxed--and the explanation, which is focused on young men anyway (where there are also problems).

It could just be that middle-aged white men are very competent at killing themselves, and that skews the numbers a lot. Otherwise, it doesn't really make sense that this is the most heavily-affected demographic unless it's not intrinsic to the box itself.
