Even if it was right-wing agitation about the Haitians that caused deadly riots by the previous residents of Springfield against the Haitians, and the Haitians were reacting with their own counter-aggression instead of just dying?
Because if you don't include that part, you aren't talking about Israel. You're talking about the propaganda-filtered version. Depending on which way you turn the filter, either side looks irredeemably violent and unreasonable.
(Fortunately, the actual Springfielders have been rather magnanimous about the changes--some complain about the cultural changes, some welcome the economic revitalization. No riots resulting in hundreds injured.)
People can have a cultural affinity for all sorts of things, including places. Is that really so hard to understand? People can find belonging with those of similar culture. Is that really so hard to understand? What else do you need to know to be able to empathize with the desire for a homeland-even-if-you-haven't-lived-there? I can understand it in the Palestinians who seek a right of "return" to places they've never lived, and in secular Zionists who want a homeland somewhere near Jerusalem.
That doesn't give you the right to murder the people who are already there and take "your" land (that they are living on). That's where the religious zealotry comes in, including at the level of government endorsement. That's why you need leaders at least as reasonable as (older, wizened) Rabin or Olmert on the Israeli side, and at least as reasonable as...uh...nobody comes to mind in Gaza.
Also, most Orthodox Jews support Zionism. This doesn't make it right (or wrong), but let's get the easy facts correct, hm?
(The secular argument for Zionism being necessary for Jewish safety--still used today!--is almost mindbogglingly dumb. It was a bad solution in the 19th century, and in the 21st "put everyone in a tiny space and anger everyone around so you have a huge target on your back" is pretty much the perfect scenario for endangering people, not protecting them. But, dumb as it was, that's the situation we're left to deal with now.)
(Not that "I fear you will try to take our land so I will attack you and give you a perfect excuse to do it" ranks much better in terms of dumb strategies.)
