I classify them as "not liberals" and yet still feel a considerable degree of responsibility for them as liberal-adjacent. But I don't tend to feel group bonds very strongly compared to most others, so it's an easy thing for me to do.

A point in favor of your perspective is that many of the people who I would argue have strayed away from liberal ideals could perhaps be enticed back.
