For completeness, it's worth noting that the Right in the U.S. has for many years made one of its strengths a profound lack of tolerance of individualism in outlook. Everyone has to believe in individualism, and a bunch of other beliefs like climate change skepticism and opposition to the legality of abortion and support of Trump.
That a portion of the Left has finally figured it out too is irritating, but it's just another symptom of the intolerance of diversity of thought that has been building in the U.S. for decades, with Republical political strategists typically leading the charge.
(Yes, yes, I know that there are some areas where the Right permits a diversity of belief, but those are the exception more than the rule when contrasted with the Democratic party at least up until recently.)
