I agree that this is very likely what he intended the lesson to be.

My point was that intent or no, the got-my-own-things-going-on perspective was strengthened to the point where "No, honestly, it really is centrally important for me to find a partner someday" was not adequately validated. So, since I didn't think it was an intentional overshoot, I opted to use humor to try to point out that, in fact, he had overshot.
