I almost completely agree with your article but this is awfully generous.
I find every kind of writing about every kind of topic occasionally un-illuminating because, well, people? We aren't always at our peak performance, you know.
Personally, I find writings about white privilege to be particularly unlikely to be illuminating because all too often people who are writing it assume a highly favorable audience, skip the majority of the evidence, don't consider alternative hypotheses, and so on. It's the same thing with any topic where feelings run strong and issues are complicated: people are drawn to the most superficial appearance of confirmation of their beliefs to such an extent that they don't really examine anything in depth if they can help it, which in turn makes it particularly unilluminating.
