I am missing something here. You're blaming a phenomenon on the advance of secularism. The same phenomenon existed in less secular times, and still exists among the non-secular, so I doubt your explanation.

I don't see how questioning the nature of religion comes into it; I'm just questioning that this phenomenon is explained by a decrease in religiosity because there seems contradictory evidence.
