I am questioning intent, yes. I think there may well be no intent to deceive at all, even about the issue of gender, and less yet to contribute to a culture of confusion.
Easy mode rationalization is just the standard thing of assuming that premises that make you right are the correct premises.
That the claim seems superficially false doesn't seem relevant. It seems superficially false that I'm stuck off-axis on a giant rotating ball--I'm sure not feeling that right now--and yet, here we are. Insisting that the earth is not flat doesn't contribute to a willingness to meekly accept arbitrary indoctrination because nobody knows what truth is anymore.
