I completely agree.
The fundamental values of the right include an affinity for natural hierarchies of authority and respect for tradition. This is inherently at odds with liberalism's focus on individual empowerment and respect for reason.
This renders liberalism and right-wing politics uncomfortable partners at best.
In the United States, with the right entranced by populism and power-based rather than truth-based rhetoric and legislative actions (e.g. curtailing of voting rights), any partnership would be excruciating.
