I don't know why we'd choose to do that.

The original poster suggested that "they" is an accessible, historically accepted, and non-judgmental way to deal with pronouns, and having it be assumed that it's always okay would help out people like themselves who struggle with remembering other details, and you got aggressive with them for it.
