I don't see the distinction. What is, for instance, the distinction between the Bible and the Communist Manifesto, when it comes to a transcendent expectation? Whether it's the Second Coming or the creation of a perfect human society, there are things we're called to do now ("many of those alive today will live to see the Second Coming") and there is this more distant hope of some transcendent outcome.
The exact details of the mechanism differ slightly, but I'm not sure why it's important. Either way, people are called to act in accord with a long-term near-mystical goal; you can't actually force Jesus Christ to return, but then neither can you actually create the perfect communist individual, so....
