I think that hatred of the outgroup has a huge number of commonalities, regardless of the qualities used to divide between the ingroup and outgroup. I don’t argue that it’s identical, just that it’s pretty much the same. For evidence, I would offer the studies referenced in The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion (Haidt, 2013).

It’s not a direct answer, but if you’re not already familiar with that work (or work of that nature), it’s kind of a prerequisite to understand my thinking on this topic. 90% chimp, 10% bee, indeed (as Haidt draws the analogy).
