I think the worst part of this is not the damage that black supremacists could do by virtue of their power. That is likely to be limited ultimately by the fact that most people in the United States aren't black and eventually if it gets too outrageous and too widespread, others won't put up with it and the power will diminish. It won't diminish without harm done to the victims, and moral self-harm done to the perpetrators, but it is at least likely limited in scope.

The worst part is that supremacy breeds supremacy. As a reaction to black supremacy, more people are drawn to white supremacy. As a reaction to that, more people are drawn to black supremacy, and so on. It pushes us into a hateful, tribal world, and away from a world of compassion and unity.

It's natural to be frustrated at the slow pace and inconsistent reach of our long journey towards a tolerant and uplifting society. But re-digging an old hole and digging a new one like it of a different color is not going to raise us up faster; we'll just end up in more holes.
