I think this is why, despite theoretical considerations suggesting that approval voting is quantitatively the "best" at approaching the goals that Arrow's Theorem proves are impossible to fully attain, in practice most places implement some flavor of instant runoff voting. It's not only easy to explain, it's also very hard as an individual to game tactically (even though technically the same kinds of considerations apply).
