If the social progress without backlash topic turns into a book (after you’re done with mother oppression), I’d love to read it!
I agree about rigorously canvassing for evidence on both/all sides. And about trying to empathize with critics. I think the first step in that is to provide psychological safety for different perspectives, which means in this case, at least,
- Trans people feel that their existence and right to a fulfilling life is accepted, and
- Anyone who has doubts about a particular pro-trans position feels that they can express them without being vilified
Right now, in most cases, neither condition is met, which doesn’t bode well for the role of evidence in shaping dialog.
