Isn't the point of the house elves' situation that even otherwise morally upright people can, with a socially-accepted excuse in hand, overlook patently abusive and immoral treatment?

If it had a moral point, it always seemed to me to encourage the reader to be vigilant for injustice that everyone accepts.
