It is clear that men acting on base nature (as sculpted by a culture that supports such things) results in some pretty ghastly outcomes.

However, it is not clear that the fault in the western world is in any meaningful sense the "inability of men to adapt to evolved ideas of the human condition" rather than "the inability of our ideas of the human condition to grapple with the nature of being human". In particular, humans are learning specialists, and aside from Marxism / Communism, which overreached anyway, our pedagogy for guiding ourselves into our better ideas of human nature tends to be absent or terrible.
