It is heroic to do what is right rather than what is self-serving, even if one is not a saint.

Liz Cheney might not be a hero, but she has acted heroically. Few people can make a claim even as noble as that.

And I don't see that there's anything wrong with preferring someone who has acted heroically over someone who has acted foolishly and/or with self-interest, all else being equal.
