It will be interesting to observe, if the left continues to grow more illiberal, whether scientists will retain their left/right split and follow the left further into illiberality; or whether they will be leading the effort against it (as some already are with the heterodox academy, although I fear with insufficiently large effect) and end up...I don't know....centrist? Isolated?
At least in the United States, I don't think the right can get much less liberal or evidence-based. There already seems to be boundless tolerance for blatant lying and excision of people who express principled but inconvenient viewpoints. So any additional movement away from a scientifically-compatible political stance would have to come from the left.
