I've ordered the Chalice and the Blade and will read it when it comes. I hadn't thought this to be particularly relevant since (1) nobody has mentioned it before in this context that I've seen and (2) it sets up a perfectly sensible dominator/partnership axis along which human societies can vary, which seems completely at odds with the "overthrow the patriarchy" sentiment that is prevalent currently.

You're completely mistaken that I'm not willing to learn things in considerable detail. I don't have time to become an actual expert, but I do have time to verify that supposed experts are drawing conclusions on the basis of sufficient evidence and sound reasoning. That takes far, far less time when the experts actually have good reason for their conclusions and share them.

If, however, the "experts" have spent the last thirty years cherry-picking those things that seem to be consistent with their biases, then of course they can't share them in any sort of compact way. If they try, anyone listening will go, "Okay, but what about that cabbage? Why didn't you pick that? Or this pineapple? What's in the field to the south? And what about this tribe in Papua New Guinea?"
