No, because you have listed enough details so that it hasn't applied to any other group pretty much ever. Homosexuality in the 20th century is the closest, and it has the confounding factor of also having something to do with gender and sex (not just group acceptance), which are psychologically difficult subjects and thus would cause me to say that this also "might not be the whole story".
