No, indeed they don't: the computer scientist Geoff Hinton, one of the giants of the field...the...the computer scientist and cognitive psychologist...oh, wait.
Maybe you don't care, and a lot of people don't care, but plenty of people (including some computer scientists) do pay quite some attention to what the brain does, and many of the biggest advances have come exactly from those people.
(Also, if you're not a neuroscientist, why would you think you know to what extent, if any, a brain is a "statistical engine"?)
