Also, who was punching Mello, who the crowd was hostile towards because he was called out as right-wing? Another right-winger?

The right has a huge problem with violent fascist extremists, like the Proud Boys gang. It does not follow that the left must therefore have no problem with violence at all. (And it does not follow from that that the scale of the two problems is equal.)
