Oh, no, you just have to understand that "ought" is. And you get the meaning of life out as part of the process! (The "meaning" of life is: more life.)

The universe doesn't care, but why do we care that the universe doesn't care?

It's not as hard as it seems to be a consistent low-faith atheist. The difficulty is that it clashes pretty brutally with the traditional Western individualist mindset at the largest level (despite reducing to it in most ways once you start digging into, "Okay, and how do we do that?"), though, so people are amusingly resistant to it.

If, however, you resolutely just follow evidence, this is where you end up. (There are hints of it in Dennett.) It doesn't seem so bad to me.
