Oh yes, of course it must be for some sort of socialist-sounding reason.

Couldn't possibly be for any of the other reasons that people always use--like avoiding persecution, making people focus on the idea rather than the bearer of the idea, to preserve your quality of life, etc..

And of course, to explicitly acknowledge others never works at all--everyone knows about Plato but nobody thinks about the ideas of Socrates, and this is why we exalt Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and not that other guy, what was his name again, even?

By putting a name to this, I hereby declare: these ideas are mine and mine alone, based on nothing else that anyone has ever said or thought. Of course. It couldn't possibly, conceivably be otherwise, could it?
