One does have to be careful that one doesn't permit dilution of science as part of a defense of "scientism", however.

"We call this science so it's the best form of knowledge" isn't the point. You have to actually get your methodology straight for it to work. You can't just claim the title or it devolves into pseudoscience.

Part of getting the methodology straight is having incessant challenges to show one's work and replicate findings and build on them, etc. etc.. To the extent "we did a science, go away" prevents good scientific methodology--and it is so much easier to have annoying questions go away--then scientism is harming science.

Ideally, we do a lot of cheerleading for science (to help us be willing to do it, because it's difficult and slow), but in a way that enhances rather than undermines the process.
