Pascal's Wager was made prior to the advent of nuclear weapons and other potential civilization- and possibly even humanity-ending technology.

These days, especially for anyone who remembers the Reagan era ("better dead than Red"), the wager looks rather different, as extinction features prominently on the other side of the ledger.

Perhaps the wager was true for Pascal. But we've grown up, now, in terms of our capabilities if not our wisdom. We cannot afford but to reason and act accordingly.
