People very often adjust to the facts on the ground when the facts are pretty okay for them. If you haven't gotten to that regime lately, you don't learn anything about a possible correlation.

It's true that culture and religion can make people perversely ignore "pretty okay" and seek self- or other-destructive actions, but that's why I'm heartened by the Palestinian responses. They mostly fall within the boundaries of what ought to be swayed by a few decades of "hey, this isn't so bad".
