Personally, I find handshakes annoying. I basically never offer to shake hands: the other person has to offer it. Then, because my politeness outweighs my distaste for handshakes, I'll go along.

Having had a variety of people offer their hand to shake, at which point the "get away from me, I don't want to touch you" thing is likely not to be very much of an issue, I can attest: there are still a sizable number of women with a very limp handshake. And some men, too.

So what you're saying is unlikely to be the whole story, just in terms of handshakes alone. But I do wonder, now, if you could judge men by how respectful they are of personal space and/or bodily autonomy by asking them how strongly they agree with the statement "women have limp handshakes".

Handshakes or no, it should be unacceptable to physically impose oneself on others in any way. I think overall society has improved in this regard over the last few decades, but it still has quite a ways to go.
