Social media has made expression of one's outlook easier, but convincing others in a democratic system that there is a better way to do things and giving it legislative teeth is as hard as it has ever been (or harder). Alas.

I also don't know how to proceed--this isn't my fight aside from the general wish that people should all be able to live meaningful lives--but I would guess that a key step will be establishing much greater levels of psychological safety for diverse ideas. Cruelty need not be tolerated, but the status quo is not doing well at forming the broad consensus that is needed to make trans people's lives better.
