Some alternatives are so categorically different that you don't need to know the details. For instance, entirely depopulating Gaza, passing everyone through security checks, and then repopulating it sans Hamas is so different in conception that "well you have to blow up 50% of the houses in this kind of operation" logic doesn't even apply.
