That would be an interesting series.

But you're still not making the connection that the name is in any way causal. My model of ageism is: age-prejudice comes first ("kids these days!", "omg those oldies so don't get it"), then the name gradually picks up the connotations of that prejudice.

What goes through your mind when I say, "Oh, that's special." Is this clearly a laudatory statement? Or did it pick up most of the connotation of "Oh, that's retarded," because it was used for the same group and the same prejudices ported over? And what goes through your mind when I say, "Oh, that's retarded." Is this clearly referencing a temporal delay? Or did it pick up most of the connotation of "Oh, that's idiotic", because it was used for the same group and the same prejudices ported over?

And I don't see why a perfectly reasonable naming convention isn't: "come up with a characteristic name, or use the next letter if you get stuck", with zero intrinsic prejudice beyond a mild inference that some generations aren't remarkable or notable enough for a name to suggest itself.
