Pain isn't an end it itself (unless you're a sadist, I guess). The point is if society enables certain individuals to accrue a massive largess, those individuals should disproportionately fund services that make life better for people in that society. Doing so by handsomely compensating a cadre of expert accountants is a particularly indirect and peculiar way to want to accomplish this.
