The core of what wokeness is to those who believe in it is pretty much what Hermes says, though. The people who throw around "woke" pejoratively include those who make up all kinds of stuff, but if you look at what is driving that part of the left who tends to also get outraged by comedians, it is pretty accurately identified there (save that I dispute that "identity politics" is more accurate; I think it's less accurate even though it's probably the strongest distinctive strain of thought, because it doesn't begin and end with identity, and knowing identity isn't enough to understand the "woke" perspective).
