The Equimundo study does not have strong support for the claim of policing. Because the study did not ask questions about policing in towards the opposite end of the axis (e.g. "My partner would be horrified if I resorted to violence to defend my reputation"), we can't tell the overall pressure of policing from the study.
The only evidence regarding directionality of policing is the disparity among the 2nd to 4th quartiles between the attitudes of the respondents and their perception of society's attitude (not really documented in the original, but Figure 27 in https://cdn.jss.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/28093247/The-Man-Box-A-study-on-being-a-young-man-in-Australia.pdf). The self/other disparity suggests that the endpoints of the axis are stable: people there have a self-image that matches their perception of society's ideal.
