The kind of anti-intellectual narrowly-stereotyped hierarchically-organized society that most of these religious denominations promote doesn't work very well for a lot of straight men either.

Of course, in most cases everyone else has it worse. But there are plenty of (straight) teenage boys who had very valid concerns about Catholicism both regarding its view of them, and the validity of Catholicism as a whole, and ended up as atheists.

Given that the fraction of men and women who practice religion and profess belief is similar and is actually slightly greater among women (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/03/30/why-women-are-more-religious-than-men/), this really isn't a good time to play up the patriarchy angle in a way that suggests that men might be the enemy here.

So, we absolutely need to be able to criticize any religious practices that are harmful and/or cruel. But this is an all-hands-on-deck kind of situation, not the women-and-racial-minorities-and-LGBTQ+ majority vs. minority straight white men thing that does sometimes come up.
