However, fair warning: though he writes thoughtful well-supported pieces, and answers simpleminded objections ("debate") well, I've never found him to engage deeply with substantive criticism of his positions.

Maybe you'll get better from him than I ever have, but whenever I've observed him to run out of reasons, it's been my impression that he just starts piling in with fallacies instead. So, fair warning: good thinker, willing to "debate", but possibly not willing to change his outlook or acknowledge any reasoning or facts that would require him to modify his outlook, at least not on the fly in the comments. (Again, YMMV. He clearly has the capacity to engage in actual debate where things are investigated in increasing depth, and positions are modified accordingly on both sides.)
