The phenomenon of stereotype threat is well-documented and can be substantial.

This does raise the paradoxical requirement of simultaneously needing to be unaware of systemic problems and biases while devoting full attention to fixing them. But it very seriously raises the possibility of substantial harm to the vulnerable population if their focus on their own status becomes ubiquitous.
