There aren't just two alternatives though.

The OP was making the point that the left is embracing dangerously irrational points of view in pursuit of an us vs them dichotomy.

You can think that Hamas is a group of barbaric terrorists, and that Palestinian culture has extremely regressive elements that harm human flourishing, and yet not believe that the consequence for this should be mass death of civilians.

You can think that Israel is largely an enlightened Westernized democracy with strong support for human rights, and suffered an egregiously brutal and unjustified terror attack on October 7, and yet not believe that their only option is to kill tens of thousands of civilians while attempting to violently destroy Hamas.

You can call out cruelty, viciousness, and stupidity wherever it occurs.

That the LGBTQ+ part of the left is failing to do that--and excusing abhorrent attitudes and acts as a consequence--is the OP's point.

I'm less certain what Jill was doing in total, but in part it's a valid observation that despite decades of allyship, Jews don't seem to have earned any benefit of the doubt. It's not "Israel is committing a massive crime against humanity by its hasty and overly-violent right-wing-driven response to being brutally attacked". It's "Israel is a settler-colonial state, globalize the Intifada, Palestine from the river to the sea, by any means necessary."

Even if Jill excuses Israeli excesses that she shouldn't, the above is still a fully valid point. If you're going to give extra allowances to your friends--a logically dubious move, to be sure, but a common one--then one would hope that having provided active support for decades would count for something.
