There is no intrinsic value period. The valuion isn't a fundamental particle, and Valuor, Lord of Values, does not oversee the universe, handing out edicts of value ("That collision of an asteroid with Jupiter was so pointless.").
Value is a high-level description of a part of a goal-directed behavior system, which we evolved because it aids survival. We are, ultimately, inexorably trapped by our goal-directed behavior, but that doesn't mean we have to be trapped by it witlessly.
Indeed, we're not witless about it. Almost everyone rejects the thought-experiment happiness button, which you could press, and you would be happy. This is the best button ever, and nothing else matters, because it makes you the most happy. Yay! Yay for the button! Let's make one! Let's give ourselves increasingly large doses of opioids until everything else is meaningless and we die--let's just make sure our overdose death is happy! Yay!
So if you go back, thoughtfully, and start considering what the value system in us is for, you conclude that the value system evolved to support survival (of the species; individuals all die). Now, "survival" in us is a very complicated affair, and also, we can completely have it under control and then go, "okay, checked that off--now what?" and we can then thoughtfully advocate for happiness as an important secondary goal (indeed, one can argue that in most situations, having happiness as a high-priority secondary goal is essential for survival given our nature).
We can of course consider and reject survival, but it's ultimately as ungrounded and pointless of an action as anything else in the universe at that point.
To blindly accept happiness alone, without asking "but wait, why?" is no better than the moth that unthinkingly bops itself against a hot lightbulb over and over again because "going to the light makes me happy!". Not really, moth! You're just maladapted, flawed, in an environment where humans shine their own lights at night. You want to be attracted to the moon so you fly into the air where you can spread and sense pheromones and thereby find a mate, so there will be more moths, like there have been for millions upon millions of years. We don't have anyone to tell us of our mothly ways, but we can still do it for ourselves. And not bop ourselves into the lightbulb because happiness.
