This is absolutely true in my experience — people in the humanities do tend to be sensitive to cultural and other non-obvious social forces (so sensitive that sometimes they imagine them when they’re not there, or create them where there wasn’t anything).

It’s a low-reliability process, but very valuable (and often emotionally enriching). We just need to ask, before using the observations to prompt any drastic changes, “How do we know?”
