This is amazing reporting. Excellent work!

Two things come to mind.

First, you seem to have documented reasonably well that individually, Proud Boys are not actually so monstrous. It is as members of the group that they are really a problem. This suggests to me that the peaceful solution is less to demonize Proud Boys as a whole and certainly less to belittle and demean individual members, because these are both the kind of external threats that strengthen tribal unity. Instead, you go in and talk to individual members and make them feel more at ease and accepted in some group that isn't so problematic.

Second, although for other neo-fascist groups this is unclear, you've documented very well that Proud Boys is a gang. A little irregular in some ways (e.g. the street crime element isn't really there), but the initiations, tattoos--it's the same type of social organization. It's a gang.

So, if Proud Boys is a gang, and like most gangs the worst actions of the gang come via the tribal actions of its members, ANTIFA is the absolute worst response possible. It's a rival "gang" (even if it's not literally a gang, it's street-level rival willing to use violence) threatening it. The Bloods don't go away because the Crips get pissed off at them. It takes a lot of violence before one or the other is so damaged that it actually disperses.

This is especially alarming because the United States has an abysmal track record at dealing with gangs.

Thank you for your investigation!
