This is hilariously excellent parody--the kind of thing I can't write because, despite otherwise being highly imaginative, I do struggle to come up with something quite that counterfactual.

(In case anyone doesn't see how parody is the only way this makes sense, just muse about how little the tens of thousands of years of uniformed toil changed things, and how explosively everything has changed in the last 400 years.)
