This is incredibly incredibly important to stress in order to counteract the claim from the strongly anti-trans group that, if true, would justify the support that the center sometimes gives to anti-trans legislation.

The claim is that trans advocates are indeed calling for conversion therapy: their own convert-to-trans conversion therapy. But instead of tackling this head-on and refuting it, trans advocates have mostly been making general statements about hatred, genocide, and the like. Indeed, the rhetoric has been almost indistinguishable from what you'd expect if the charge was true.

I hope this turns around quickly. Understanding is usually the best antidote to fear, and a lot of the response is fear-based. Of course, if there actually is something to fear, the understanding can raise fear yet further, but it also allows the problem to be identified and fixed, so in the medium-term it's still by far the best option.

If half the words that had been spent on Lia Thomas had instead been detailing the psychological evaluations and treatment options and telling case studies of trans people and so on, I bet that half the anti-trans bills that have recently passed wouldn't have made it.
